100th Anniversary Re-enactment of the Mullaghmore Cattle Drive DVD
On May 7th 2016 Moylough Heritage Society and the people of Mullaghmore gathered together to re-enact , remember and honour the Mullaghmore Cattle Drive of 1916 when families from the locality made great sacrifices to get their just rights to the ownership of their land.
Subsequent to the commemoration a double DVD has been produced.
DVD 1 captures the events of the day as re-enacted by grandsons, great grandsons and descendants of the families involved. The day long commemoration started with the driving of cattle and sheep from the land, a confrontation with the landlord, a visit to a public house, a trial and finally a typical Irish homecoming for the men who were incarcerated.
DVD 2 is an interesting and poignant insight in to the historic happening told with pride and passion by descendants of the families involved while Tony Varley, History Department NUIG explains and analysis the circumstances against which cattle drives took place in Ireland at that time.
Should you wish to buy a copy of the double DVD at a cost of €15 please email mcr@moylough.com or call Moylough Heritage Society on 087 3480583.
Postage arranged on request.
